Leonard Law is from a North Idaho logging community and grew up a missionary kid in the 1970s. Following his Army retirement, and pushed by his loving wife Elizabeth, Leonard attended the Enology and Viticulture Program at Walla Walla Community College to refine his skills and knowledge. Leonard also holds a BS from the University of Idaho, MBA from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, and an MS in Operational Planning from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College School of Advanced Military Studies.

Leonard developed a passion for wine through wanderlust, an incredible curiosity about all things fermented, a 28-year military career, and an article and recipe for homemade wine in the Mother Earth News Almanac he read as a teenager in the late 1970s.

That interest was nurtured during his final year at University of Idaho when a friend introduced him to home brewing. He brewed his own beer for the next 10 years, until discovering a small winery near Niagara Falls in 1999.

A tin shed and a winemaker with passion. The hook was set.

In addition to maintaining the college vineyards, working in the cellar, and teaching forklift skills, Leonard has launched his own small label, Lacewing Cellars, and is producing his first vintage as a commercial winery.
