Brief info

Devyani joined the Valdemar Family in March 2019, before we opened our facility in Walla Walla. Since then, she has been involved with each step of our development. Her winemaking approach hinges on the fundamental belief that great wine is grown in the vineyard. With this intention, she encourages her wines to be tenacious, fresh, and vibrant, with a sense of place and purpose.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Devyani’s wine journey began when she moved to Walla Walla to attend Whitman College. During her time at Whitman, she worked for Amavi Cellars while finishing her degrees in Psychology and Spanish. While she had planned to work at the UW as a researcher after graduation, she realized that winemaking had become her dream. In 2016, she left research and enrolled in the local Enology & Viticulture program. As a student, she worked as a Viticulture Technician for North Slope Management and in the cellar for Figgins Family Wine Estates to immerse herself in winemaking and grape growing.

After graduation, she became the Enologist for FIGGINS and Toil Oregon. Her time with the Figgins Family shaped her love for a wide range of site-driven varieties: from delicate Riesling and bright Chardonnay to powerfully textured Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. This dynamic experience inspired her to find her way back to the vineyard, but this time as a winemaker. When Valdemar Estates came to the Valley, and they needed someone with both premium winemaking and vineyard management experience, she knew she had found her home with the Valdemar Family.
